Why Our Technology Is Different
Real Compressor. Not a Peltier Chip.
Most small humidors use thermoelectric cooling — cheap, silent, and useless when the room gets warm. A Peltier chip can only drop 8–10°C below ambient. On a 35°C summer day, your cigars sit at 27°C. That's beetle-hatching temperature.
We use a sealed compressor. It holds 16–22°C regardless of whether your room is 10°C or 38°C. It also heats — built-in element kicks in when ambient drops below your set point. One system. Year-round stability. No seasonal drift.
Evaporative Humidification. Not Ultrasonic Fog.
Ultrasonic humidifiers turn water into visible mist. Looks impressive. Ruins cigars. The micro-droplets condense on wrappers, causing uneven swelling, wrapper damage, and mold.
Our system uses an evaporative membrane. A silent fan pulls air across a saturated film, releasing humidity as invisible vapor — the way a forest floor works. No droplets. No condensation. Just stable, invisible moisture distributed evenly throughout the cabinet.
Solid Spanish Cedar. Not Veneer. Not MDF.
Many cabinets advertise "cedar lining" — thin strips glued to MDF. That is decoration, not climate control. Spanish cedar (Cedrela odorata) is hygroscopic: it absorbs and releases moisture, acting as a natural humidity buffer. Its oils repel tobacco beetles. Its aroma seasons your cigars over months and years.
Every interior surface in a Balans cabinet is solid cedar: walls, shelves, drawer fronts. Not veneer. Not composite. Solid wood that works with the climate system, not against it.
Dual Circulation Fans. No Dead Zones.
A single fan creates a loop: top to bottom, same path, same air. The corners sit still. Humidity stratifies. Temperature layers.
We install two fans — one base-mounted pushing air upward through the shelving, one side-mounted creating cross-flow. Together they eliminate dead zones. Every shelf gets the same climate. Every cigar, from the top row to the bottom drawer, ages under identical conditions.
Which humidor is best for you?
68 L / 80–150 cigars. Compact enough for an office, serious enough for a curated rotation. Compressor cooling, Spanish cedar throughout. If you are just starting or space is tight, start here. Perfect for beginners.
96 L / 200–250 cigars. The apartment humidor. Same compressor precision in a slim footprint that fits home bars and small lounges. A meaningful step up in capacity without a step up in floorspace. Ideal choice.
140 L / 300–500 cigars. The under-counter workhorse. Front-vented design tucks into kitchen islands, wet bars, and built-in millwork. No rear clearance gaps required. If your cabinet needs to disappear into cabinetry, this is it.
Frequently Asked Questions About Cigar Humidors
What water should I use?
What water should I use?
Distilled water only. Tap water contains minerals that will clog the humidification film and leave deposits. A 4L jug lasts months.
How often do I refill the water tank?
How often do I refill the water tank?
Every 2–6 weeks, depending on your ambient humidity. The LCD panel shows a warning when the tank is low. The compressor and temperature control continue running independently.
Does it make noise?
Does it make noise?
The compressor runs at approximately 38 dB — quieter than a library whisper. The circulation fans are effectively silent. You can place this cabinet in a bedroom or study without noticing it.
Can I run it on 110V?
Can I run it on 110V?
Yes. All Balans cabinets are dual-voltage (110V / 220V, 50–60 Hz). Specify your region when ordering and we configure accordingly..
